Wing Headquarters staff visit 617 squadron for the Annual Formal Inspection

It’s been a busy time at 617 squadron over the last few weeks preparing for our Annual Formal Inspection (AFI). The big day arrived and our dignitaries from Wing Headquarters were treated to a presentation of all our activities over the past year and a drill parade. Other activities included a test of the cadet’s Wing knowledge, uniform and squadron premises inspection. The hard work ‘bulling’ boots, studying hard and scrubbing floors paid off with the Wing Commander and his team recognising the positive progress we have made since last year.

The visit ended with feedback from the Wing Commander and a presentation. Congratulations to Cpl Hennessey on the award of his Leading Cadet qualification

Well done to everyone who took part and in particular Cpl Faithfull and Cdt E James who wrote and presented a summary of our year to the Wing Commander.

Operation X comes to 617 Squadron

On Tuesday 27 February, the squadron will be hosting a special visit from the RAF Careers Outreach team based on Stoke. The team will be visiting the squadron to run Operation X which a simulated interactive mission which will allow cadets to experience first-hand what happens when the RAF responds to a humanitarian crisis.

Cadets will be able to discover the vital role every member of the RAF, from Pilot to Chef, plays in responding to a call to action. As well as experiencing immersive video, cadets will be able to test their own skills.

For this experience we will be welcoming fellow cadets from 79 (Whitchurch) Sqn
